Balkans on the Road of EU Integration: Is the EU still the Center of Gravity?

The Centre for Strategic and Defence Studies organized an international conference entitled ’Balkans on the Road of EU Integration: Is the EU still the Center of Gravity?’ on 13 March 2018 where experts from Hungary, the Western Balkans and Turkey shared their views about that whether the EU is still a luring modell, and how the relations of the EU with the Western Balkans and Turkey changed.


The Centre for Strategic and Defence Studies organized an international conference entitled ’Balkans on the Road of EU Integration: Is the EU still the Center of Gravity?’ on 13 March 2018 where experts from Hungary, the Western Balkans and Turkey shared their views about that whether the EU is still a luring modell, and how the relations of the EU with the Western Balkans and Turkey changed. The presentations highlighted the challenges of democratization, and how actors outside of the region influence these relations. Anna Orosz, the researcher of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade evaluated the Western Balkans strategy of the European Commission published in February. In her speech she highlighted not only challenges ahead of the Western Balkan countries but also those ahead of the EU membre states that are inevitable to allow the strategy to give real momentum to the enlargement process.
