Public lecture by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines at IFAT

On 14th February 2019, H.E. Teodoro L. Locsin Jr., Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines delivered a public lecture at the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT), entitled „Independent and sovereign: The foreign policy of the Philippines in a changing global order”.


During the lecture, H.E. Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. presented the Philippine view on the major geopolitical forces shaping the world as a whole, and the Asian region in particular. He elaborated on the role of superpowers such as the United States and China, the economic outlook for the region, as well as the changes in the rules-based global order. His speech was followed by a Q+A session with the audience. The issues raised included the future of the South China Sea, the impacts of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, along with the relations between the Philippines and Central European countries.

The event was organized with the kind help of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Budapest, together with the Department of Fastest Growing Economies of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
