Tamás Levente Molnár, IFAT’s research fellow participated in Pallas Athene GeopoliticalResearch Institute’ GeoDebates conference, an Oxford-style debate. Intellectual basis of the event was Ágnes Bernek’s study on the global role of the Central and Eastern European region. Our college stated during the discussion that the Central and Eastern European region acts as a buffer zone between the East and the West. This role can be interpreted in terms of two key players: Russia and China. The conflicts with Russia, who is responsible in causing the buffer zone status in the region, have a political and military nature. From China's perspective the conflicts with Western-Europe do not have a primary (security)politics, but rather an economic character.
