Viktor Marsai received his Bachelor and Master degree in history of the Eötvös Loránd University in 2008 and his second Master in security and defence policy in the Miklós Zrínyi National Defence University in 2010. He worked in the Hungarian Ministry of Defence in 2010-11. Since 2012 he has been working in the National University of Public Service, first as a junior lecturer and since 2015 as an assistant professor. He also delivers lecture in Péter Pázmány Catholic University. He defended his PhD-thesis about the Somali crisis and state building in the Eötvös Loránd University in 2014. His main fields of research are the security and political processes of Africa; Jihadist organisations in the continent; the security of the Horn of Africa region; Somalia; Libya; and piracy. He is the co-author of three books and the author of more than 60 articles.
