Towards the Endgame? The Possible Contours of the Settlement of the Syrian Civil War - Geneva 4 and the New Policy of the Trump Administration
Analysis by Máté Szalai and Péter Wagner
Since the end of the year 2016, the dynamics of the Syrian civil war has been going through profound transformation. While the conflict fought on three levels – local, regional and global – by different actors continues to look unsolvable on the short term, the changes already taking place enable us to outline the most likely conditions, frameworks and consequences of the settlement. The Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade launches a new series of analysis entitled “Towards the Endgame? The Possible Contours of the Settlement of the Syrian Civil War” in order to present the developments and the possible solutions of the conflict. In the frst part, two topics will be described – the consequences of the retake of East Aleppo by the Assad regime on the local level and the Syrian policy of the Trump administration.
