On the 15th of May, 2017, Mahmoud Barimani – the director general of the department in charge of Northern and Central European relations in the Foreign Ministry of the Iranian Islamic Republic – visited the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT). Mr. Barimani was accompanied by H.E. Gholamali Rajabi Yazdi, the ambassador of the Iranian Islamic Republic to Budapest.
During the discussion with the leaders and researchers, Mr. Barimani described the results of the Iranian presidential elections taking place in the previous week as well as Tehran’s relations with the European Union. Marton Schőberl, the director of IFAT presented the activities of the institute, especially the directions and the aims of the related research programs.
During the discussion, several issues have been raised, including the Saudi-American relations, questions related to the implementation of the JCPOA, recent developments in the Syrian war the fight against the Islamic State, as well as different investments in the Iranian energy market.
