    The European Union and Turkey – current affairs and perspectives

    On 18 February 2021, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) organized an online roundtable discussion with the title The European Union and Turkey – current affairs and perspectives. Didier Billion, Deputy Director of the French Institute of International Strategies and Relations (IRIS), Turkey expert and former Ambassador János Hóvári, and Máté Szalai, senior research fellow at the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade participated as panelists.

    Ten years after the Arab Spring

    On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the start of the so-called “Arab Spring”, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade organized an online roundtable discussion. The event, which took place on the 27th of January, 2021, was moderated by Tamás Péter Baranyi, the deputy director of strategy of the Institute. Three experts, namely László Csicsmann (associate professor at Corvinus University of Budapest), Máté Szalai and Péter Wagner (senior research fellows of IFAT) gave lectures about specific topics.

The event focused on the regional and global rivalry following the discovery of natural gas reserves in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean sea and its effects, as well as the related energy security considerations of Hungary and the European Union.

    On January 21, 2020, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade held a roundtable discussion entitled “The Middle East after the death of Soleimani” with the participation of Erzsébet N. Rózsa (professor at the National University of Public Service and external research fellow of IFAT), Máté Szalai (senior research fellow of IFAT and assistant lecturer at Corvinus University of Budapest), and Gergely Varga (senior research fellow of IFAT). The event was moderated by Péter Wagner, senior research fellow of IFAT and senior lecturer of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church.

    Security Policy Corvinae – Book launch

    On the 4th of October, 2019, the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted the launch of the book entitled “Security Policy Corvinae” published by the Antall József Knowledge Centre. Two editors of the volume, Kinga Szálkai and Tamás Péter Baranyi and of its authors, István Tarrósy discussed the significance, peculiarities and the content of the book with the moderator, Máté Szalai.
