    Security Policy Corvinae – Book launch

    On the 4th of October, 2019, the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted the launch of the book entitled “Security Policy Corvinae” published by the Antall József Knowledge Centre. Two editors of the volume, Kinga Szálkai and Tamás Péter Baranyi and of its authors, István Tarrósy discussed the significance, peculiarities and the content of the book with the moderator, Máté Szalai.

    70 years of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary – conference at IFAT

    On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) hosted a conference evaluating bilateral relations of the two countries. The event also provided a forum for authors contributing to the book to be published for the anniversary to present the results of their researches. The conference was organised jointly by IFAT and the China-CEE Institute.

    How to deal with Russia, Ukraine and other neighbours in the East

    What are the main opportunities and challenges of a new European eastern policy? This was the central question of the lecture of Ambassador Michael Siebert, Director for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia in the German Federal Foreign Office. The lecture was titled “How to deal with Russia, Ukraine and other neighbours in the East”, and took place on 16 September at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT). The lecture was followed by a discussion during which the participants talked about the rapprochement possibilities of the Member States of the EU’s Eastern Partnership, the domestic political developments in Ukraine, and disputes concerning the Nord Stream 2 project.

    The annual Gulf Research Meeting (GRM) took place between the 15th and 18th of July in Cambridge, providing room for consultation for the scholars working on Gulf-related issues.     Hungarian national interest in Europe: minority affairs in the European Parliament

    On 8 July 2019 the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted the round-table discussion, Hungarian national interest in Europe: minority affairs in the European Parliament. Among the invited guests, Balázs Brucker, political scientist, held the keynote speech, ’The national minority intergroup of the European Parliament: an old-new instrument for minority interest enformecement’, to which Zoltán Kántor, Director of the Research Institute for Hungarian Communities Abroad and Attila Kovács, Associate Research Fellow of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade reflected and added their professional ideas. The roundtable discussion was moderated by Márton Ugrósdy, Director of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

    30 years of Hungarian-South Korean relations

    The Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT) and the South Korean Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) hosted the ’Korea and Hungary – 30 Years, Strategic cooperation for the future’ conference on 5 July 2019 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic contacts between the two countries. The event was opened by András Baranyi, Deputy State Secretary for Eastern Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Kyoo Sik Choe, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Hungary, Márton Ugrósdy, Director of IFAT, and Bong-Geun Jun, Acting President of IFANS KNDA.
